OPNFV Release names

Folks,
I was looking for the name of the  first OPNFV release to use in some text.
Have we worked out some release naming strategy for the OPNFV?.
If we have not done so,  here are some suggestions
o River names in Alphabetical Order  ( Rivers are real life  Forwarding Graphs connecting cities etc.)
o Mountain names in height Order (We improve OPNFV progressively )
o Marine Animals in Alphabetical Order

We can also have it named on the astronomical bodies with each major release based on a bigger astronomical body. Names of Starts can also be used.
I can come up with the top 25 largest to smallest names.

Or have it named after Mountains however the mountain names sound ambigous...sometimes these are named after the first man to climb it...

I don’t have a strong stance but if we are to use mountain names, we should not go from highest. Everest evokes a sense of penultimate goal; I don’t like the sense that our first release is the final goal. Maybe start with the 14ners in the US in random order.

Thanks,

A

Hi All,

Good to start the discussion.
For now can we refer to it as the "first/initial/inaugural " release?
I will bring the topic up in the TSC call next week.

My only thought really is: do we want to postpone this discussion/decision until the broader community is more engaged?

/ Chris

Everest vs Chomolungma
Mt Cook vs Aoraki
etc.

Love US fourteeners, But non-americans have spectacular ranges to put forward.

Planets? We mostly avoid controversy until the 9th release if we start
with Mercury.

Alternatively, stars would be interesting. No good metaphor, I'm afraid,
it's just a big collection of things with names.

Perhaps gemstones? Amber, Briolette, Cubic zirconia, Diamond, Emerald,
Or common names of alloys - since OPNFV is an amalgam of multiple things
- there's a long list of candidates:

Planets? We mostly avoid controversy until the 9th release if we start
with Mercury.

Alternatively, stars would be interesting. No good metaphor, I'm afraid,
it's just a big collection of things with names.

Perhaps gemstones? Amber, Briolette, Cubic zirconia, Diamond, Emerald,
Or common names of alloys - since OPNFV is an amalgam of multiple things
- there's a long list of candidates:

Maybe fruits and vegetables? Since OPNFV is composed of multiple elements that are great for the "BODY"

Artichoke
Beet/Broccoli
Cabbage
Dill
Eggplant
Fig
...

(Gotta avoid names like Apple and Blackberry tho :P)

BTW I like the gemstone idea

I like rivers
BTW I named the pre-project around testbed "Danube" (renaming of Hurricane wich was making reference to the Openstack Tempest)

In deed rivers are "virtual" infrastructures - difficult to build on water - however most of the civilizations have been built along the rivers
there are rivers everywhere, on all continents
there are small ones (sub project) and majour ones (versions)
it is a good illustration of networking, graph theory, bandwitdh constraints...

it could be problematic to call our first version Amazon.. :)

Amur
Brahmaputra
Colorado
Danube
Euphrates
Gange
Hudson
Kwai
...

gems, mountains, astro stuff are fine too :)

City/river/mountain names in alphabetical order work fine for me.

Would be nice to have some geo-diversity in the names perhaps...
